SPACE AVAILABLE FOR LESSONS BEGINNING IN SUMMER OR FALL 2026!
I began piano lessons at a young age and progressed through the RCM grades quickly while participating and winning awards in music festivals, recitals and competitions for many years. In high school, I took a break from piano lessons but continued to expand my musical knowledge and skills by teaching myself how to play guitar and bass, and playing flute in music class and the school band.
In my post-secondary studies I attended York University in the Fine Arts, Visual Arts program for a year before enrolling at Metalworks Institute where I earned an Audio Production and Engineering Diploma. I then returned to piano lessons and completed the requirements for the RCM’s Elementary and Intermediate Piano Pedagogy certificates. I subsequently became a member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association, and began teaching from home in 2012. In 2026, I completed the Piano Technician Academy’s online Piano Tuning and Repair course and am working towards honing my tuning skills and acquiring a deeper understanding of the inner workings of the piano.
I enjoy teaching piano online or in-person, working with students of all ages and abilities. Lessons are tailored to the student’s preferences and learning needs and we work on the fundamentals while also enjoying repertoire from rock, pop, classical, movie, or video game genres. Some students also choose to participate in the RCM program and have done very well in RCM exams. No matter the course of study I always include theory, sight reading, ear training, and rhythm exercises in my lessons to provide a well-rounded program. For younger students, I also include a variety of fun online, board, or card games that reinforce important musical concepts.
Since 2016 I have been serving as ORMTA's Communications Coordinator, managing their website, social media channels, online magazine, tech support, and more. In my spare time I continue to enjoy creating artwork (which can be viewed at www.facebook.com/aless.matt.art or www.instagram.com/aless.matt.art), playing strategic board games with family, and video games with my husband and two sons.
